We first started providing mobile IAG to pupils in 1992. We were the first charity to run a regional mobile IAG service, and we have been supporting schools under the Connexions brand since 2002. Independent audit and assessment of our service has consistently rated it as an Excellent/5 star service in every review. All of our PAs are trained and qualified to the highest standards and levels available, often to levels in excess of PAs in other careers guidance organisations.
Many schools report that our service has a positive impact on their most vulnerable students and solves issues that more traditional in-school IAG support struggles to tackle. The atmosphere on our mobile units is very different from classroom-based careers guidance; we take a relaxed and informal approach that all students find engaging and accessible, and we back it up with the rigorous professionalism on which our reputation is based.
Our mobile units have internet access and everything we need on board. They even have a ‘Big Brother’ style video diary room, where young people can have their say on our performance and suggest service improvements. Having worked across the region, we are well-versed in the use of all ‘Connexions’ databases and we operate the strictest protocols with regard to data protection and management.
What can we offer?
We can deliver sessions that meet the specific needs of the school; that could mean offering services at breaks and after school, or during class time. Because you only have to pay for delivery time, our service is often more cost effective than paying for in-house staff to provide IAG support.
As a fully integrated IAG service we provide;
• Drop-in information
• Sign-posting and referral
• Group work
• Condom distribution (as an option)
• Chlamydia screening and pregnancy testing (as an option)
• Liaison with school staff with/on behalf of young people
• Facilitating young voices and participation
• Job search and CV preparation
• EET opportunity identification and introduction
• Home visits and family-based support
• Specialist referral
• Long-term case load support for very vulnerable young people
• Partnership co-ordinated work with colleagues |
